How long can we stay at Hurstone?
Week long, mid-week (4pm Mon – 10am Fri) and weekend breaks are available year round. Extended stays can be booked by arrangement.
Is a security deposit required for my stay at Hurstone?
Yes, a security/cautionary deposit of £500 must be paid 1 week before your arrival. Provided there are no breakages or damage to the property this will be returned promptly after your stay.
Where can I see my Check-In details?
You’ll find this information within the ‘My Booking’ section of our website. This can be accessed using your password 4 weeks before your stay. This gives you all the information you need to know for your holiday, including the property address and detailed directions.
What time can we arrive at Hurstone?
The arrival time is 4pm. Unfortunately, we can’t make this any earlier as our team will be busy getting the house ready for your stay.
Is Hurstone suitable for people with limited mobility?

How do we book the Annexe?
This can be booked via our Extras page, or by contacting the owner.
Is bed linen provided?
Yes, all duvets and pillows and bed linen are supplied. Duvets and pillows are filled with synthetic fibres. Cot mattress sheets are also provided.
Are towels provided?
A hand towel and bath towel are supplied for each guest. There will be hand towels in the kitchen, ground floor shower room and the loo in the covered area. Please note that you will need to bring your own towels and suitable footwear for going to and from the hot tub.
Are cots supplied?
There are 2 full size cots are available on request. These can go in Bedrooms 1 and 3-6. Note that these are for infants aged 2 years and under.
Are highchairs supplied?
Yes, 2 highchairs are available on request.
Are dogs allowed at the property?
Hurstone welcomes 1 dog at a small additional charge. We ask that you read our Dog Rules before planning to bring your pet to Hurstone. A welcome dog pack is provided, including waste bags.
Is the garden secure?
Not entirely; at the front of the house there is a large terrace with garden furniture and a charcoal barbecue (available on request from Easter - end October, please bring your own charcoal); beyond this is the front garden which is not fenced and has a ha-ha, so children must be supervised at all times. There is paddock adjacent to the garden which is great for picnics and ball games though bear in mind it is not level. To the rear of the house there is a covered area with a WC and fridge, and a gravelled courtyard with a large hot tub and outdoor furniture. The hot tub seats 7; it is checked twice a day, generally at 8am and 8pm, or by arrangement. This should not encroach on your stay
What essentials are supplied?
There is double the amount of crockery and plated cutlery for a dinner party for 14, glasses (wine, champagne, highball, cocktail, pint), full tea service, tablecloths and napkins on request, at least 2 toilet rolls per toilet, washing-up liquid, dishwasher tablets, rinse aid, tea towels, dish cloth, scouring sponge, washing-up brush, metal scourer, oven gloves, tin foil, bin bags, hand soap, 3 hairdryers. Welcome Pack of tea, coffee, sugar, milks and biscuits for your arrival.
Can I have groceries delivered to Hurstone?
Yes, Asda, Sainsburys, Tesco and Waitrose will deliver to Hurstone, as will Dart Fresh who supply very good mostly locally produced food. Please arrange deliveries for after your 4pm arrival and ensure that your name and mobile number are on the delivery information. Remember to let the owner know so that the van driver can be directed to the back door where groceries can be unloaded straight into the kitchen.
Can I book private caterers at Hurstone?
Yes, this is something lots of our guests do when they come to Hurstone for a family celebration. Local caterers are listed on our Extras page and should be booked directly with the supplier.
Is there wifi at the property?
Yes, there is fibre broadband.
Are there facilities to play music at the house?
There are portable Bluetooth speakers at Hurstone; there’s also a piano in the sitting room!
Is there ample parking at the house?
Yes, there is off road parking for up to 8 vehicles and more available close by. At the back of the house there is temporary parking for unloading/grocery deliveries.
Can I charge my electric car at the property?
Unfortunately not. There are no EV charging points at Hurstone and due to insurance restrictions we cannot allow guests to use outdoor plugs or run cables from the house to charge vehicles – see Electric Vehicle Charging for more. There are EVPs in Wiveliscombe just 2.5 miles away.
Are there any restrictions?
Yes – the usual kind of thing that you would expect at any holiday cottage. We ask that there is no smoking at the property, and no fireworks, sky lanterns or drones. We also ask that outdoor shoes are not worn inside the house, so you may wish to bring slippers with you. Note that this is a quiet rural area so consideration is required for neighbouring properties and there must be no noise after 11pm.
Is it far to the nearest pub or restauarant?
We are very fortunate to have an excellent gastro pub just down the road in Waterrow. This is a 5-8 minute walk downhill from the house – uphill on the way back so allow at least 10 minutes! Please also see Food & Drink.
How far are the nearest shops?
There are very good local shops in Wiveliscombe, less than 3 miles away; there’s a butcher, a deli/wholefood shop, chemist, hardware store, a small Co-Op, convenience store, tea rooms and good pubs. Please also see Shops & Markets.
What is there to see and do nearby?

What time do we need to leave the house at the end of our holiday?
Departure time is 10am for all stays. Unfortunately, we can’t make it any later as we need to get the house ready for the next guests. For information on what to do before you leave please see Your Departure From Hurstone.

Note: Security cameras operate on the outside areas at Hurstone, including the entrance gate, rear gate, the parking area and the garden in front of the house. There are noise monitors in the games room and drawing room.
