Hurstone - Access Statement
This access statement does not contain personal opinions regarding suitability for those with access needs, but aims to accurately describe the facilities and services offered to all guests/visitors.
Introduction
Hurstone is an old farmhouse with heaps of country character - the oldest parts date back to the 14th century. It sleeps 14 guests and can accommodate 2 more guests in a self-contained ensuite annexe right next to the house; this is a wonderful place to stay for pet friendly holidays with friends and family, for celebrations & reunions and for walking breaks. There is a very good gastro pub, The Rock Inn, within easy walking distance and the nearest shops are only 2.5 miles away in Wiveliscombe; all major supermarkets will deliver to Hurstone.
Hurstone is situated on a hillside on the edge of a quiet village close to the borders of Somerset and Devon. The garden and grounds slope gently away from the house, most of the rooms face south, with the exception of the kitchen, utility and Bedroom 7, which have an outlook of the rear garden and bank, and the hills beyond.
The nature of the site means there are differing levels and surfaces, which may hamper mobility for some people. We hope the information below will be useful, but if you have any specific concerns please call Chrys, the owner on 07956 510886.
There are train services at Taunton (approx 13 miles) and Tiverton Parkway (approx. 10 miles), with local taxi firms running from both stations - our advice is to ask for a fixed price before making the journey. There is also a regular First Bus service (No. 25) from Taunton station to Dulverton, which takes about an hour to get to Waterrow. For drivers using SatNav our post code (TA4 2AT) will bring you to the door, though depending on which direction you are coming from, it can bring you through several miles of narrow lanes. We recommend checking your route and using the directions in your check-in information that you will have access to after you have made a booking.
Approach
The house is approached via a steeply rising country lane.
A gravel drive leads you around to the front of the house and the main entrance.
There is adequate parking for up to 8 cars (additional parking close by).
There is temporary parking to the rear of the house for unloading only.
A flight of six, shallow 7" (18cm) stone steps, 6ft (183cm) wide leads to the stone paved terrace with a second flight of four shallow 7" stone steps to the porch and one further 7" step leading to the main entrance via a 36"w x 73"h (91cm x 185cm) main door.
Hallway
The entrance and hallway leads round to the games room and dining room, and then beyond to the kitchen and utility room. Also off the hallway are the stairs, a rear lobby and downstairs shower/WC, and the sitting room.
The hallway is L shaped, 66" (168cm) wide reducing to 42" (107cm) at its narrowest.

Kitchen/Utility/Scullery
A door leads from the dining room to the utility room and kitchen down one 7" (18cm) steps.
The kitchen is practical and bright and has recently been upgraded to enhance its user-friendly feel.
A 32" (81cm) wide opening links the kitchen to the utility/scullery where there are 3 fridges, 2 dish washers, a washing machine & tumble dryer and a 32"w x 74"h (79cm x 188cm) wide door with level access to the rear yard and unloading area.
The kitchen is well equipped with a dual fuel range cooker, an additional standard size electric fan oven and a microwave. There is a double bowl/double drainer sink, and an additional sink with drainer in the utility/scullery.

Dining Room
The dining room is down a 4" (10cm) step from the hallway through a 31" (79cm) wide door.
French doors 48"w x 78"h (122cm x 198cm) open to a gravel path along the front of the house.
The dining table is 39"w x 144"l (1m x 3.66m) and can seat 14 (16 at a push) with an addition small (drop/folding) dining table seating 4 available. There are ample dining chairs.

An archway 72" (1.83m) wide leads up one 5" (12.5cm) step to the games room.
Games Room
The games room leads off the hallway through a level 34"w x 73"h (86cm x 185cm) door.
The half size snooker table is 7ft x 3ft 6"(2.23m x 1.06m)
