Hurstone

Large country holiday house in Somerset sleeping 14 guests in 7 bedrooms. Self-contained ensuite annexe for 2 more guests (extra charge), games room with half size snooker table, private hot tub, large grounds and paddock.

It makes us so happy that guests have a wonderful time at Hurstone; here are some of the lovely reviews they've left:

10/10. The fires, flowers dotted all over the house. It is a lovely house . Tara Pothecary & friends

The house was perfect, lots of essentials provided that made the stay easy. The owners were very generous and on hand on help make the stay special for us- even taking a family picture!  Rowena Beldam & family

10/10. We were a party of 12 adults celebrating a 60th birthday and wanted a venue with parking for 6+ cars, 6+ bedrooms, lounge to sit all 12, dining table to fit all 12, a kitchen to support and options for country walks without having to drive. Hurstone absolutely delivered on all counts (and then some!). We had a fabulous time and were well looked after by Chrys and her team. Would definitely recommend and hope to return in the future. Thank you Chrys. Gary Hatten & friends

10/10. Fourteen family members ranging from 14 to 83 stayed for a long weekend. The house is fantastic, stunning views, and space to play games, barbecue and watch the stars at night. It is fitted out with all you need, fresh bedding , towels, kitchen stuff, games, deck chairs, logs for log burners etc. Everywhere was spotlessly clean. We loved having the hot tub and snooker table, such wonderful added extras.
Thanks so much to the host Chrys, she made sure our stay was the best with such thoughtful touches like fresh bread and pastries on arrival and fresh flowers around the house. Thankyou Hurstone, lovely memories.
Edward Shaw & family

10/10. We all loved the hot tub, pool table, board game collection and garden games. The kitchen was also excellent and made cooking for a large group easy. We stayed at the property throughout although did visit Barrington Court which was lovely and well worth a stop for a few hours. Ben White & family

10/10. The house was really comfortable and so well equipped. We played pool most days and enjoyed the croquet lawn. The hot tub was great after a long walk. Lovely to be able to access so many walks from the house. We loved all the artwork in the house and the fresh flowers. I can't think how you could have improved the experience. Juliette Shillingford & friends

10/10 It’s all 100% so no improvement needed. You have it all covered. Thank you. Debbie Howarth & family.

10/10The house is located beautifully for country walks by day and excellent for all getting together in the dining and lounging areas when you return. The front garden is a gorgeous sun trap and was perfect for a relaxing brunch. We really enjoyed our short stay here and would definitely recommend it. Lynn Barnes & friends

10/10This is a fantastic house with fantastic hosts and we couldn't have asked for more. Stephen Sutherland and family

10/10The house was so beautiful that we spent most of our time indoors and exploring the lovely surrounding grounds. The views from the house were so breath-taking, that you could just curl up in front of a warm fire and watch the world go by. The house was spacious yet had a lovely cosy feeling and full of character (such as beautiful stained glass windows and wall pictures, explaining the house's history).

It could not have been better - all the guests thoroughly enjoyed and loved the house. It was warm and comfortable, and large enough for our group to peel away if they wanted some solitude. The games room was a delight and the cooking facilities were fantastic. Plenty of fridge and oven space to cook meals for a large group of people. The online photos of the house are beautiful but you must see the house in the flesh to really appreciate what a stunning place this really is. I am so pleased we chose this house for our getaway! We had the most memorable time and it could not have been possible without the owner. She was absolutely marvellous. I hope we can come back again to visit soon (and for a longer stay). Thank you to all at Hurstone House. Nikki Rowlands and friends

10/10. We had a long weekend in June, 3 nights,  for our 25th wedding anniversary with close family.
What a lovely house and grounds, so peaceful and tranquil. Chrys and Simon were great and showed us around on arrival - very welcoming. The house is fully equipped and nice to see fresh cut flowers around the house. We fully recommend this property and would love to return. 5 star.

Mike & Pauline Davis and family.

10/10 . We  had a fabulous catch up/reunion for my friends weekend. So great to share the weekend with some of my favourite people, doing my favourite things!
Thank you to you all for making it so special and huge thanks to Chrys for organising an Art class for us too!!
We all had such a great time and can’t wait to book up again !!!  We enjoyed walking in the stunning surrounding countryside. A visit to the Exmoor Distillery was good fun, close enough to get to by car and a very informative fun hour or so out.
Stephanie Ward and friends

10/10. A lovely warm welcome from the owners and a real wow factor walking into this beautiful property with roaring wood burners. Not a single thing missing you might need from the kitchen. Loved the pool table and our party of 11 made use of all the available space. Bedrooms gorgeous. Couldn't have asked for a better experience.  Marc House with family & friends

10/10. A warm comfortable house with plenty of space for our party of 11. Wonderfully well equipped kitchen. Wonderful setting . Very helpful and friendly host. Recommended days out :We had a lovely drive up through Exmoor to Foreland Point - beautiful scenery and a great (strenuous) walk. Short drive to Haddon Hill for a nice walk. Debbie and Paul Ashman (and friends)

10/10. Communication was second to none, Chrys is a super star. The warmest of welcomes and a walkthrough of how everything works in the house was fantastic. And the views, Wow. I'm going to really miss those views! The house is absolutely incredible and fully equipped for everything you will need during your stay. I couldn't recommend Hurstone House enough, I will most definitely be back, this time with my family to get through those board games! Thank you so much, Chrys and the team, what a memorable experience.  Rebecca Aruwa and friends.

10/10. We loved the whole house. The beds were lovely and comfy and the hot tub was just what we needed when the weather wasn't so good. The fires were great even on summers evenings.  Dr. K Hardy and friends.

10/10. We had a wonderful stay and can’t recommend this place enough!. Some wonderful walks in the local area, there is also a pottery workshop nearby.   Sioned Forwood and friends.

10/10. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Hurstone and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it to others. Chrys, you were a super host and were a pleasure to deal with from start to finish.   Mrs Becci Pirie & family,

10/10  Had a very relaxing 4 day stay with 13 family members. So many facilities at the house (hot tub, pool table, board games, Sky Sports, log fires) that meant we were quite happy to spend most of our time at the house. Chrys was a great host and made sure we had everything we needed....Being picky maybe a larger screen TV perhaps but otherwise can’t think of any improvements we could recommend. We enjoyed a day out at Croyde beach, but there are other lovely beaches about the same distance away on the North Devon coast.  Mr Anthony Griffiths & family,

10/10  Hurstone is a very comfortable, spacious and well-equipped house set in a stunning location with countryside views. We had a family celebration weekend and the venue suited everyone. From snooker tournaments, to star-gazing in the hot tub, to curling up in front of the log-burners, it all made for an enjoyable and cosy stay. Chrys the owner was friendly, relaxed and super helpful, nothing was too much trouble, from suggesting local walks to helping us with our fire-starting technique :) she made sure we had everything we needed for the perfect weekend.  Suzie Wray ( Scratchan family ),

9/10  The house and the views were great. The billiard table was enjoyed and the hot tub even more so. We were made very welcome by Chrys and Simon.  James Wishart & family, March 2022

5 stars  Just been to Hurstone for a great week with family & friends. Chrys, the owner was very attentive & quick to help with a couple of problems we had, they live next door so easy to contact anytime! The house was spotless & was ready for our arrival with extra little touches which showed how much care is given. The kitchen is the best equipped we have seen with EVERYTHING you could need. All bedrooms are large with comfy beds & lovely linen & beautiful bedding. Everything organised, cleaning of hot tub , recycling etc. Some of our group ate at The Rock pub (need to drive or walk back up the very steep hill) & thoroughly enjoyed the food. We will be back 😊  Lesley Walsh & family,

10/10  Great property, really beautiful, really clean, extremely comfortable and spacious within beautiful grounds. Being at the property for only three days meant that we didn’t have a huge amount of time to explore other activities. To be honest this wasn’t disappointing as we went to relax rather than wear ourselves out running around. The property, internally and its surrounding grounds enabled both adults and children the space and comfort to relax, play and enjoy. If exploring activities within the local area or further afield is what you want, the owner Chrys has a wealth of knowledge and provided more than enough material for you to choose from. We did a local walk on one day and a beach day the next.   Marie Hamilton, family and friends,

10/10  We can highly recommend a stay at Hurstone, the house is so beautiful and spotless with everything you could need for a very comfortable stay. Comminication with our host Chrys prior to our stay was spot on, she gave us very clear advice and instructions on what to expect and how best to find the house. This attention to detail continued on our arrival, and was very professional and friendly without being intrusive. I would highly recommend a stay, but please don't book the week we are after in the spring!   Glassey Family,

10/10  Hurstone is an amazing property and the owners went out of their way to make sure we felt 100% safe during the coronavirus pandemic and made every effort to ensure we were safe whilst still having an enjoyable holiday. We didn't really have any days out due to coronavirus and were happy staying in this beautiful house with surrounding walks in the countryside.  Clare Howard & family,

A friendly and professional booking experience. Chrys is an excellent host from the moment you enquire. Even when circumstances were out of her control during the covid-19 crisis, she was always in touch, answering queries and offering options to suit our group. Your booking will be in very safe hands and I will not hesitate to book again.  Amy John & family,

10/10  A fantastic house for large families who wish to celebrate together. Lovely that 17 of us could all sit around the dining room table to eat Christmas lunch. Every need catered for. One suggestion: perhaps another TV in the smaller lounge for large parties. Recommended days out: Lynton and Lynmouth.  Sarah Bowen & family,

10/10  Thoroughly enjoyed our return trip this year - THANK YOU!!!  Chrys did everything necessary to make our stay just perfect - from our exchanges with her to prepare for the weekend....... her enthusiastic welcome for us on arrival.......to the regular visits by the ‘hot tub & log fairy’ to ensure nothing ran out and we could make full use of the tub!!! Thoroughly recommended and we’ve already rebooked to come back again next year!!!!   Steve Barry & family,

9/10  The house was excellent and very homely especially with the wood burners which gave it a cosy feel. Chrys the owner looked after us very well and the house is very well equipped. Our group of 12 were very impressed and want to go back next year.    Richard Tovey & friends,

10/10  A very clean and well equipped house. The non stop log supply was very much appreciated; added to the ambience. Maria & Brian Quinn and friends,

9/10  Paul & Angela Bristow & friends,

10/10  My rating would definitely be a 10/10. Hurstone is a fabulous country house, full of charm and whether you're a group of adults as we were staying or families it’s perfect, there is so much room and space for everyone. The big hot tub in the garden was great, we couldn’t use it often enough. There are lovely rolling hills and beautiful countryside all around, so for those who love to be out in the country walking or taking your dog on a lovely long walk this is the house for you and, you have en-suite bedrooms all of which overlook these wonderful views. The owner has thought of everything to make your stay perfect, and should you need anything a pleasant, helpful member of the team is on hand for you. We all loved it and will be back the same time next year, Hurstone certainly worked it’s charm on all of us.   Margaret Menzies & friends,

10/10  Our group enjoyed sitting out the front, taking in the beautiful views and just being able to relax.   Emma Connolly and friends,

10/10  Every year myself and old school friends look to meet up for a weekend and Hurstone is the perfect place to do this, so much so that I have been 4 times. The property has everything you could ask for, is of good size, is clean, and Chrys provides an exceptional service to ensure your stay goes smoothly and is pleasant. I wouldn't hesitate in recommending the property to friends and family. For properties of this specification we are strongly of the view that it is the best around.  Chris Grahame & friends,

10/10  Excellent - simply excellent - THANK YOU Chrys!! Candidly, I'm not sure there's anything we could improve about the whole 'Hurstone experience' - from the simple, straight forward and user friendly booking process - to the equally user friendly travel and 'joining instructions' - and the friendly, cheerful greeting when we arrived for our birthday celebration weekend - it was all just perfect!! And then there's the house itself - full of character (particularly when tastefully decked out for Christmas - thanks Chrys!!!) and space for everyone to either please themselves, or join together in the games room, kitchen and dining room around the log burner or in the hot tub outside. The house is fully (and we mean FULLY!!!) and thoughtfully kitted out with everything you need for the weekend, the kitchen was perfect to cater for even our large and hungry extended family/friendship group and as if by magic fresh logs and firewood arrived each morning before we were even up and about. A truly wonderful weekend and a real gem of a discovery which we've already booked again for next year!!!     Steve Barry & family,

10/10  The house was absolutely perfect for our weekend stay to celebrate my Dad's 60th birthday. The kitchen was so well equipped with everything we needed (and more!) to cook for the 15 of us and great for the chef that we hired for the Saturday evening. There was so much space it never felt crowded even with so many of us, and nearly all the bedrooms having their own bathroom was a massive bonus with a large group. We especially enjoyed the hot tub and the pool table - the location of the pool table meant that guests could play whenever they liked while still being involved and chatting with the rest of the group in the other room which was great. I would highly recommend this property to anyone and would love to return again!    Rebecca Woollard & family,

10/10  Wow is the first thing you will say when you drive up to the house. It is equally stunning on the inside and out. We were greeted warmly and shown all the necessary bits to help our weekend run smoothly. The house is beautifully decorated and most of the rooms have en suites. The layout is perfect for large groups and the kitchen area is perfect for preparing large meals. It has every utensil you could think of and you will never run short of cutlery or crockery! The hot tub is a delight even on the coldest night, and when it gets too much you have the log fires to warm up in front of. Such a wonderful stay we can’t wait to come back again.   Ruth Hale & friends,

10/10  The house is very comfortable and perfect for a large group. We had plenty of space and there were excellent facilities to allow everyone to be social together eg plenty of seating in the lounge and a large dining table with plenty of chairs. Also great catering facilities for a large group. The hot tub proved extremely popular!   Wendy Robinson & friends,

10/10  It was a wonderful 3 days. We really appreciated the warm welcome and a home base so welcoming, clean and tastefully furnished. We felt very much at home. Thanks again. We would recommend days out to Woolacombe Beach, Valley of Rocks, Lynmouth, Foreland Point area. Driving there across the moor was a beauty of its own.  Tom and Carol and the sisters with us,

10/10 Staying for a family weekend celebration, there was no need to drive anywhere. The location of Hurstone was idyllic and scenery beautiful. We walked to the local pub and also enjoyed the circular walk along the stream further down the valley (waterproof footwear needed). The view from the house was stunning. Opening the bedroom curtains every morning to the pleasant rolling hills and valley was enchanting.    Mrs A Richardson & Family,

10/10  We stayed for a weekend for my sisters hen party and from before we even booked Chrys was incredibly helpful. Hurstone was spotlessly clean and the kitchen is really well equipped. We had a great lunch out at Sheppy's Cider but couldn't wait to get back to the amazing view and hot tub. Such a great place.   Mrs J Weale, famly & friends,

10/10  The property was beautiful. Chrys was always on hand to answer any questions. Thoroughly recommend!!   Mr Jas Darar, family & friends:

10/10  A Very well equipped home. We enjoyed cooking as a family. Loads of room, great balance of cosiness and enough room to escape others if needed too. Excellent views in the morning on opening the curtains . Enjoyed the fact of 1 TV gave us a break and to interact with one another. Nothing to improve perfect place for a family/friend vacation.   Haw family:

10/10  We particularly appreciated the friendliness of the owner. We also loved her attention to detail with things like Christmas decoration etc. We thought the house was very comfortable, roomy and beautiful. Great views were an unexpected treat too. We loved the hot tub and pool table. Beds were comfy and all really well presented. All round a great place to stay. Lovely local walks.   Mr Joe Gray & family,

10/10  Owners very helpful. Lovely location. Great space for mixed age families. Jacuzzi was enjoyed by all ages. Loved making the wood fire up. Under floor heating very useful in winter. Great to have so many family members around one table. A social space - we would like to visit again in the summer!    Slater family,

10/10  There is so much to do in the area, the beach, walks, eating out. As we were there for just a weekend this time we did spend a lot of time at the house and revelled in it!     Fox family,

10/10  Chrys was so helpful before and during our stay. Hurstone House is a beautiful county house and was perfect for our family's stay. The house had so much character and was so cosy plus we had an abundance of logs so we could enjoy a real fire. The snooker room and hot tub were fantastic and proved very popular with all the family.    Rees family,

9/10  The views from almost every window, how well equipped the kitchen was, the amount of wood available to make up fires as required, the friendly owners, ease of parking, the pool table was in constant use.   Martin family,

8/10  Great service throughout the booking process. Attentive and personal. The property was lovely, good accommodation, plenty of space for a large group (and crockery and cutlery and other kitchen provisions) and the little touches, like the biscuits/tea/washing up liquid etc, were appreciated, as was the owner's availability and her advice and information.   McLaren Group,

10/10  Well equipped house, bonus having Sky Sports.   Colbear family,

9/10  We loved the house and felt almost instantly at home. As with other guests, we were three generations celebrating big family birthdays, in our case 70 and 80. We had perfect weather for our Saturday night party. Jazz band and Pimms on the terrace, a balmy summer evening and a beautiful setting. We couldn't have asked for more. Hurstone is very well equipped, with masses of space, and plenty of character. The only addition we can think of are a couple of extra benches to sit outside and enjoy the view.    Browning family & friends,

9/10  Had a fantastic hen weekend at the Hurstone House . The dining room / table was ideal for the Mad Hatters tea party we held. Great spaces throughout the house. Kitchen is very well equipped, could do with some extra comfortable settees / slouch chairs in the TV room, apart from that, would change nothing. House is full of character and we had a great weekend, Many thanks. Julia & Charlotte.   Julia Poole & hens,

9/10  A really good holiday. Everything we needed was there, a very well equipped kitchen, everywhere very clean and so good to have towels supplied because of the room in the cars. We speak from lots of experience! Our hosts could not have been more friendly and helpful. Wonderful countryside. Thank you very much.     Bocking family,

9/10  Really enjoyed the property's views. We stayed at the house  (throughout our stay) - it was such a lovely location - no need to leave.    Dingle family & friends,
