Hurstone sleeps up to 14 guests for luxury large group stays deep in the Somerset countryside, but we also get a lot of enquiries from smaller groups. So we now offer a 5% discount off the price of a stay for groups of 10 or less when they book direct with us.

What’s great is that we don’t go locking up bedrooms and telling you which ones you can and can’t use – it’s entirely up to you. Say you’re a group of 5 couples heading down to Somerset for a walking break or for a reunion with old friends you haven’t seen in years. You won’t be restricted to just 5 of the 7 bedrooms – you can still have them all if you want to. After all, it’s not always ideal to share a bed with your nearest and dearest, especially not if they snore or sleep restlessly. There’s no point in denying yourself a good night’s sleep – have your own room! And if it works better for any of those in your group it is worth noting that 2 of the bedrooms are twin rooms, and there is another that is a zip and link (so that one has the option on double or twin) and then the other 4 are doubles, so you have plenty of options .

If you do decide to use only 5 of the bedrooms it means you can all have the luxury of an ensuite bathroom, but like we say, have as many as you want. All yours from the moment you arrive to the moment you leave are the games room and the hot tub, and everything else in this gorgeously rambling old house. A lovely sitting room, a large light and airy drawing room, a dining room and a fully equipped catering kitchen with a utility room and scullery.

At the back of the house there’s a private part-walled courtyard with a covered area, a hot tub and outdoor furniture, at the front there’s a terrace where in the springtime you can sit beneath the wisteria and enjoy a leisurely afternoon tea; at the edge of the flat lawn (great for croquet!) fields slope gently down to the valley, the adjacent paddock is all yours for rounders or French cricket. The views along the front of the house are breathtaking, rolling on and on across the valley where the River Tone slips happily along. Those hills in the distance – that’s Exmoor National Park that is.

All yours! Exclusively so. And 5% discount as well! Compare that to the equivalent cost of even a half decent hotel and it just won’t cut the mustard – the savings are all yours because not only is it excellent value on a price per person per night basis, but there’ll be no strangers at breakfast time, no people you don’t know in public areas – there aren’t any public areas here at Hurstone, it’s all so lovely and private. It’s a dream to be here, where it feels so remote and so far, far away from the push and shove of life in the big wide, so cloistered from all the bad things that are going on. It’s heaven-not-quite-in-Devon (the border is little more than 2 miles away).

Oh, and there’s a self-contained Annexe right next to the house, which you can book if you wish, though there is an extra charge for this. Even so, it’s great for people who like to have their own space; it has a king size bed and an ensuite wet room, and it’s fairly access friendly – in the past guest with restricted mobility have used it with no issues.

So, to explain, if there’s a group of 10 of you wanting to stay at Hurstone for a very special family celebration, toddlers over the age of 2 years are included in the count, but there’s still room for 2 infants under that age – and we provide the cots, so you don’t need to worry about travel cost taking up precious boot space in the car.

A lot of people come to Hurstone for that reason, to celebrate a significant birthday or anniversary – a 50th, 60th, 70th, 80th, even a 90th birthday, and all those remarkable wedding dates remembered each year – the silvers, the rubies, the golds and the diamonds. This is such a wonderful place to raise a toast to life’s special occasions, times remembered, moments treasured.

There’s a certain ambience here, you see; you notice it as soon as you step inside the front door when you first get here. And it’s so welcoming, like the house is gently ushering you in, to put your feet up, to leave any troubles behind, to relax. The softest feels pervade throughout the house so you’ll have the happiest time here, we know you will. Think of it as a luxury getaway with old world charm, let it weave its magic around you. You might want to add to your country house experience with local activities, private dining or entertainment – take a look at our Things to Do and Extras pages and you’ll find plenty of inspiration.

So come for 4 nights, arriving on a Thursday, or come for 3, arriving on a Thursday or Friday. It makes no difference, if you’re a smaller group of 10 or less, you’ll have that discount*. To secure it your stay will need to be booked direct with us and we’ll take it off the cost of your holiday when you pay, it’s that simple. So book a stay today, claim your 5% discount for smaller groups and look forward to the Hurstone experience. There’s nowhere else in the world like this, it’s unique, it’s full of character and it’s a very lovely place to be, almost magical and unforgettable. You’ll love it.
