Hurstone

Large country holiday house in Somerset sleeping 14 guests in 7 bedrooms. Self-contained ensuite annexe for 2 more guests (extra charge), games room with half size snooker table, private hot tub, large grounds and paddock.

We want you to have a wonderful time at Hurstone, so we’ve put together this useful information to help you plan your stay. Please also see our House Rules.

BBQ: There is a charcoal barbecue available on request for use from Easter to the end of October. You will need to bring your own charcoal for this.

Bed Linen and Towels: 

Duvets and pillows (these are filled with synthetic fibres), bed linen and cot mattress sheets are provided.
A hand towel and bath towel for each guest is supplied.
There will be hand towels in the kitchen, ground floor shower room and the loo in the covered area at the back of the house.
You will need to bring your own towels for use with the hot tub and suitable footwear for going to and from.

Catering: If you’d like to arrange private catering for a special occasion or for the whole of your stay please see our Extras page where we have a small list of recommended caterers. You will need to contact them direct to make arrangements, then let the owner know who is coming and when.

CCTV/Noise Monitors: Security cameras cover the entrance gate, back gate, parking area and the garden at the front of Hurstone. There are noise monitors in the games room and drawing room. For more information please see Hurstone - CCTV and Noise Monitors.

Check In Details: Check in time for Hurstone is 4pm and check out time is 10am. More information can be found under the My Booking tab on our website 4 weeks before your stay.

Coffee Machine: There’s a filter coffee machine and 4 cafetieres.

Cots: We have 2 full size cots for infants aged 2 years and under. These are available on request and can go in Bedrooms 1 and 3-6.

Decorations: We want you to enjoy yourselves and be happy at Hurstone but it’s important that the house is treated with respect. If you want to decorate the property for a special occasion, we ask that banners, etc are not adhered to the walls, furnishings or fixtures as this can damage paintwork and other surfaces. Please also note that guests must not bring balloons with glitter onto the property.

Deposit: A security deposit of £500 must be paid at least 1 week before your arrival. This will be returned promptly after your stay as long as there are no breakages or damage to be found.

Dogs: 1 well behaved dog is welcome at Hurstone – there is a small charge for this. We provide a welcome pack which includes waste bags and we supply dog towels and blankets in case you forget to bring your own. Please make sure you’ve read our Dog Rules before planning to bring your pet. 

Electric Vehicle Charging: We don’t currently have any EV charging points at Hurstone. Due to insurance restrictions it’s not possible to use outdoor plugs or cables from the house to charge vehicles (see Electric Vehicle Charging). The nearest EVP is less than 3 miles away in Wiveliscombe.

Essentials Provided: 

There is double the amount of crockery and plated cutlery for a dinner party for 14, glasses (wine, champagne, highball, pint), full tea service,
Tablecloths and napkins can be supplied on request.
Welcome pack of tea, coffee, sugar, milk and biscuits.
At least 2 toilet rolls per toilet, washing-up liquid, dishwasher tablets, rinse aid, dish cloths, sponge scourers, washing-up brush, metal scourer, tea towels, oven gloves and hand soap, Tin foil, cling film and bin bags. Note that these items are not necessarily provided for the whole of your stay and that you may need to buy more.
There are 4 hairdryers in the house.

Features: Large hot tub, games room with half size snooker table, large grounds.

Food Deliveries: Dart Fresh, COOK, Asda, Sainsburys, Tesco and Waitrose will deliver groceries to Hurstone. Please arrange deliveries for after your 4pm arrival and ensure your name and mobile number are on the delivery information. Please let the owner know so that the van driver can be directed to the back door where groceries can be unloaded straight into the kitchen.

Garden: At the front of the house there is a terrace with garden furniture. This leads down to lawns where you can play croquet and outdoor skittles; to the side of the lower lawn there is a paddock which is the allocated area for field/ball games (no ball games on the front lawn). The front garden is not fully fenced and has a ha-ha, so it’s important that children are supervised at all times. At the back there’s a covered area with a loo and fridge freezer, and a large graveled courtyard with the hot tub and outdoor furniture. 

Guests: Hurstone sleeps 14 guests in 7 bedrooms in the main house and 2 more at an extra charge in the adjacent annexe (this can be booked via our Extras page). For more details please see the Floor Plans

Highchairs: 2 highchairs are available on request.

Hot Tub: This is in the courtyard at the back of the house. It seats 7. It is checked twice a day, usually at 7.30am and 7.30pm, or by arrangement. This should not encroach on your stay, it is however important that the hot tub is not in use during these checks.

Kitchen/Utility: Dual fuel Range cooker (5 burner gas hob with 90cm electric oven), additional standard electric oven, 3 under counter fridges, fridge freezer, microwave, 2 dishwashers, washing machine and tumble dryer.

3 Night Weekend – 4pm Fri – 10pm Mon
Extended stays by prior arrangement.

Local Pubs & Restaurants: There’s an excellent pub just down the road in Waterrow. This is a 5-8 minute walk downhill from the house – uphill on the way back so allow at least 10 minutes! Please also see Food & Drink.

Local Shops: There are good local shops in Wiveliscombe (less than 3 miles away) including a butcher, a deli/wholefood shop, chemist, hardware store, a small Co-Op, convenience store, cafe and good pubs. Please also see Shops & Markets.

Music: There are Bluetooth speakers at Hurstone for guests’ use inside the house only. Note that, as per our Terms and Conditions, no additional amplification equipment can be brought to the house.

Parking: There is off road parking for up to 8 vehicles and more available close by. At the back of the house there is temporary parking for unloading/grocery deliveries.  

Restrictions: The usual apply, so no smoking, no candles, no disposable BBQs, no fireworks, sky lanterns or drones and no noise after 11pm. We also ask that  outdoor shoes are not worn inside the house, so you might want to bring slippers with you to wear indoors. 

Rooms: 7 bedrooms (4 ensuite), family bathroom, ground floor shower room, dining room, games room, living room, drawing room, kitchen, utility room. Adjacent annexe with a double bedroom and ensuite wet room (this is available for 2 adults at an extra charge but is not suitable for a cot).

Room Configurations: Bedrooms 1 and 4 have twin beds, Bedroom 2 has a small double bed, Bedrooms 3, 5, 6 and the annexe all have double beds, and Bedroom 7 has zip and link beds (super king or twin).

TVs: There’s a TV with Sky Sports & Movies in the Drawing Room.

Wifi: Hurstone has reliable fibre broadband and good 4G phone signal.

Woodburner: There are wood-burning stoves in the dining room, living room and drawing room. Logs and kindling are provided.
